Cat on a Hot Tin Roof

by Tennessee Williams

It's Big Daddy Pollitt's last birthday, in the house that death has come into.

The cancer is terminal, the pain gnaws in his belly, and yet tonight is the great celebration of his clean bill of health. The wealthiest plantation owner in the Mississippi Delta is going to live. Big Mama weeps with joy that her husband has survived his brush with death. Son Gooper and his wife Mae hide behind smiles, waiting to cut away their piece of the inheritance. Favoured son Brick wallows in self-pity, indifference and alcoholism, mourning the loss of his greatest and truest friend. His wife Maggie the Cat watches her husband's inheritance slip away before her eyes. Big Daddy still has cancer, and the lie is beginning to wear thin.

In a single night the family will tear itself apart, as the Pollitt mens' tragedies of death, abandonment and love step out of the darkness and into the light. Maggie the Cat will do all she can to secure the love of her husband and the future she knows she deserves, and in doing so bring further mendacity to this twisted web of lies and liars.
