Welcoming All Newcomers
We are Theatre Group - the student theatre society at the University of Southampton. You can find us throughout the year putting on all sorts of plays. We direct them, we produce them, we perform in them and we even write some of them and that's just scratching the surface. If these are things you enjoy read on to find out how to get involved. Yes we will be at the bunfight, find us in performing arts on the 28th September and say hello. We can answer any quick questions you have and there will be all sorts of information available.
Meet us at the welcome meeting
We will be holding a welcome meeting at 6pm 5th October in Room 1077 in the Nuffield Theatre (Building 6) on Highfield campus (Where is this?). This is a chance for everyone new to the society to meet the committee, ask any and all questions you have and for us to get to know you all with some drama games. This year Theatre Group's freshers' show is 'Animal Farm' and we'll be kicking off auditions straight after the welcome meeting on the 5th October in Room 4005 in Building 34 (Education) (Where is this) or you can audition later on the 6th, also in 34/4005 or the 7th in Room 1019 Building 28. Join the event to get all the details. Auditions in Theatre Group are very relaxed - you don't need to prepare anything and you have as much time as you like to practise once you get there - just bring yourself. The freshers' show is the best way to get involved with the society as a performer but not the only one, there will be more auditions later in the year and there are workshops.
Work with us at workshops
Theatre Group runs weekly workshops where we try to get together and play some drama games, try out some new things in theatre and generally enjoy ourselves. Every Monday at 7:30pm, join the Facebook group to stay up to date, find out where the workshop will be held and what the topic will be. You can find out more here.
Drink with us at the freshers' social
Our first social of the year is for all you freshers. After the welcome meeting and the auditions on the 5th October we will be convening in Stags (Where is this?) for a drink from 9pm onwards and then finding our way through the night with some ropes. Join the event to find out just what we will be getting up to and then come along and do it with us.
Write with us at original writing
Theatre Group is also the society for everyone interested in writing plays. We support writers primarily by running weekly drop in sessions for everyone and routinely stage several pieces of original writing every year. The first original writing session of the year will take place on the 24th October, time and location to be announced.
